📚FREE & FREE-ish eBooks for the End of January!📚

Hey everyone! Can you believe it's almost February??? Man, January just FLEW by!

Today, we're gonna switch things up a bit today. In addition to FREE ebooks, I'm also going to give you links to FREE-ish ebooks. The first few books on this list are featured on Kindle Unlimited. The rest of the books, as always, will be FREEEEEEEEEE.

If you're not sure what Kindle Unlimited is, it's a subscription service from Amazon that gives you access to a vast library of over 4 million eBooks, audiobooks, and select magazines for a monthly fee.

Subscribers can borrow up to 20 books at a time, with no due dates, and read them on any Kindle device or through the Kindle app on smartphones, tablets, or computers.

You can check out the Kindle Unlimited library HERE. Sometimes, Amazon even offers a free trial for a few months.

The reason I'm doing this is:

a) to highlight some self-published authors who might not ever get seen

b) to share MY books with you since they are in Kindle Unlimited

c) to share the hard work my friends and other self-published authors have created

If YOU have any authors you'd like me to highlight on this newsletter, then let me know!

Also, if you're not vibing with yet ANOTHER subscription service (trust me I get it) you can always purchase the books. It helps out the self-published authors either way!

If you want to know more about the differences between self-publishing and traditional publishing, then check out this awesome breakdown HERE.

Now on to the books!

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

Available on KINDLE UNLIMITED! Hey it's my book! I wrote this book because I'm kind of obsessed with aliens... and conspiracies... and science fiction... and aliens. Oh, I already said that. I had a lot of fun writing this and I hope you have a lot of fun reading it.

Ace Trakker, an alien bounty hunter with a newfound conscience from decades among humans, is on a mission to recapture escaped extraterrestrials from Area 51—creatures he’s partially responsible for unleashing. As he hunts down dangerous aliens threatening Earth, Ace uncovers a mystery tied to his own species. With help from human and alien allies, he must protect the planet while navigating interference from the rebranded Alien Investigation Bureau. Ace Trakker: Alien Bounty Hunter is a humorous sci-fi adventure blending action, mystery, and wit.

Available on KINDLE UNLIMITED! This book was written by my good friend C.R. Jones! We used to work together and bonded over our love of books. She's awesome and you should definitely check her book out.

Set 300 years in the future, Women Are from Venus follows Reyna, a determined cadet at the renowned Venus Militia Academy, where she works tirelessly to honor her late mother’s legacy and graduate as a top officer in the Republic of Earth United. While excelling in nearly every discipline except anti-gravity training, Reyna’s carefully charted path takes an unexpected turn when Dan'Trell, the academy’s first openly gay commander, steps into a leadership role.

As Reyna forms a bond with Dan'Trell, she begins to question the societal norms she once accepted and wrestles with her growing feelings for the married commander. Caught in a storm of self-discovery and forbidden desire, Reyna must navigate the trials of both her training and her heart, weighing the cost of following her moral compass against the risk of embracing her deepest yearnings.

Women Are from Venus is a compelling tale of identity, love, and courage, set against the backdrop of a futuristic galaxy where personal choices have the power to shape the destiny of LGBTQ acceptance on a universal scale.

Available on KINDLE UNLIMITED! I don't know Jeremy Robinson personally but I'm a BIG fan of his work. He's written so many great books that it's hard to recommend just one. Sooooo I'll probably recommend more in the future.

From bestselling author Jeremy Robinson comes The Dark, a sci-fi-infused horror novel that reimagines the chilling prophecy of the Three Days of Darkness, when Hell itself unleashes chaos upon Earth.

Miah Gray, a 27-year-old ex-Army soldier haunted by PTSD, seeks peace in the simplicity of rural New Hampshire. But his quiet life is shattered when an intense darkness envelops the world, fulfilling a centuries-old prophecy. Forced to seal himself indoors, Miah must navigate the terrifying rules: anyone who opens a door or window succumbs to instant death, and demons infest the air.

A mysterious flash leaves Miah branded with a Norse death rune, marking him as different while chaos consumes the neighborhood. With parents vanishing and only children left behind, Miah becomes an unexpected leader, teaming up with his crush, Jen, and a group of orphaned kids. Determined to protect his sister and uncover the truth, Miah embarks on a perilous journey to confront Hell’s forces head-on.

Blending supernatural terror with character-driven intensity, The Dark is a gripping exploration of survival, sacrifice, and redemption in a world where the boundaries between life and death dissolve.

174 YEAR OLD BOOKSTORE FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY

Books Inc., a 174-year-old independent bookstore chain based in California, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing rising operating costs and shifting consumer habits. The company plans to continue operating 10 of its 11 stores, along with its website, while undergoing reorganization. However, the Berkeley location will close on February 9, with some staff potentially transferring to other stores.

CEO Andy Perham emphasized that the restructuring is aimed at creating a smaller, more sustainable platform for the company’s long-term future, and assured customers that Books Inc. is not going away. The chain’s Frequent Reader Program and other customer benefits will continue during the process.

This is Books Inc.'s second Chapter 11 filing, the first being in 1996, after which it successfully modernized and emerged stronger. Perham encouraged customers to support the chain by shopping in-store or online, expressing confidence in the dedication of their booksellers to ensure a vibrant and enriching experience for readers.
